On Jan. 1, 2025, legislation in Germany will change for shipping heavy packages. The law requires the shipper to add a weight indication on the package. It concerns packages of 10-20 kilograms and packages over 20 kilograms. As DHL eCommerce Benelux, we have chosen to implement this measure not only for Germany, but for all destinations, domestic and international, so that your and our employees are better prepared to handle heavy packages.
If you are using My DHL Portal, the label-API or plug-ins, DHL eCommerce will take care of adding the correct weight icons to the label. The shipper is responsible for correctly entering the weight or choosing the correct weight category on all packages to Germany.
Are you using your own software to create shipping labels? If so, please provide these labels with the appropriate icons by January 1, 2025 at the latest. Your CIM consultant can help you with this.
The icon for your labels on packages between 10-20 kg can be found here.
The icon for your labels on packages over 20 kg can be found here.
Failure to correctly enter the weight or choose the correct weight category may affect our services such as delays or surcharges for destination Germany. This also applies if you do not adjust your custom labels.
