Do you want to protect your valuable parcel against damage or loss? Then choose Insured Shipping. With DHL, you are insured without a deductible, so you will receive compensation for damage or loss if something does go wrong along the way. Our insurance is easily arranged via the My DHL app, online or at a DHL ServicePoint

  1. Open the My DHL app or visit a DHL ServicePoint
  2. Choose delivery to the recipient's home or to a DHL ServicePoint
  3. Under shipping, choose the service 'insured shipping'

That’s it! Your package is now insured against damage or loss during transport.

What does it cost to insure your package?

The cost for insured shipping depends on the destination of your package. Insurance for a parcel within the Netherlands and to Belgium costs €2.50, in addition to the standard shipping costs. For insured packages to other countries you pay €3.50 extra. You can insure your package up to €500. This insurance applies to consumer to consumer packages.

High value, low weight?
Insure your shipment

Even if you are not insured, we offer limited compensation for damage and loss. Based on the law and our general conditions, you are entitled to this. The maximum compensation is €3.40 per kg for transport within the Netherlands.* With insurance you get more compensation; you get the replacement value and transport costs back, up to €500.

 

*The maximum compensation is €3.40 per kg for transport within the Netherlands (in accordance with Book 8 of the Civil Code, Article 1105 and decree ex Article 1105) and 8.33 SDR per kg for transport across the border (approximately €10 per kg, in accordance with CMR).

Terms for insuring your package

With insured shipping, it is important that you take the following terms into account:

  • Drop off at a DHL ServicePoint: A counter clerk must accept and scan your package. DHL Self-Scanners or Lockers cannot be used.
  • Suitable packaging: Make sure your package is securely packed. This prevents damage during the sorting and delivery process.
  • No prohibited goods: Check that your product complies with the shipping rules. A list of prohibited goods can be found here
  • You cannot insure envelopes and letterbox packages.
