For several weeks now, packages delivered by DHL in Tilburg and the surrounding area have been coming from the climate-neutral CityHub located at Castorstraat 31 in the Vossenberg industrial park in Tilburg. With this, Tilburg, Goirle, Riel, Alphen, Baarle Nassau, Loon op Zand and Kaatsheuvel are taking another step in green delivery. The official opening of the CityHub took place last Friday in the presence of local entrepreneurs, DHL employees and Karin Bruers, initiator of the Tilburg Social Sofas, who gave a preview of the DHL version of the mosaic bench that will be placed in the CityHub's eco-garden.
The DHL CityHub is the sixth climate-neutral branch for the last mile that DHL is opening in the Netherlands. CityHub Tilburg is part of an extensive 350 million euro investment program in which 27 CityHubs in a network of 140 branches will be built completely new and to the highest sustainability standard (BREEAM Outstanding). The CityHub is gasless and equipped with solar panels used to charge the 14 electric delivery vans. The other 6 vans run on HVO-100 diesel which reduces CO2 emissions by up to 90%. The CityHub employs over 100 people who drive 60 routes daily from the CityHub to households, stores and businesses around Tilburg. That's over 9,000 packages a day and growing. Almere, Zoetermeer, Sittard-Geleen, Breda and Nijmegen also have a climate-neutral CityHub. The remaining 21 will follow in 2023 and 2024. Before next summer, DHL eCommerce's entire last mile in the Netherlands will be fossil-free, either by electric transport or by using HVO-100 diesel.
The DHL CityHub has a service point where packages can be picked up and dropped off. Also, the CityHub is always looking for enthusiastic couriers with driving license who would like to work a few hours per week.
