The leading online department store Wehkamp and DHL eCommerce will continue to work together over the next 3 years to send parcels to Customers of Wehkamp and kleertjes.com. Today Graham Harris (CEO Wehkamp) and Wouter van Benten (CEO DHL eCommerce Benelux) sign the contract extending the 33-year partnership.
In the coming years, Wehkamp and DHL will continue to work on innovative delivery solutions that allow the customer to choose the best delivery time and location. Customers appreciate the fast delivery (ordered today before 23.59, delivered tomorrow), the free selection of time slots and the free delivery on Saturday. Since a few months there is already the possibility to have a package delivered the same day if it is ordered before 13:00.
Sustainability
Wehkamp has been working successfully on sustainability for years. For example, the distribution centre in Zwolle is equipped with 15,000 solar panels. Wehkamp has also won several awards in recent years for, among other things, making packaging more sustainable, which produces 64% less CO2 and for the smart logistics solutions that were devised together with DHL.
In order to deliver as sustainably as possible, DHL has invested heavily in its network in recent years. In the coming months, the company will add more than 600 electric vans and thus have the largest electric fleet in the Netherlands with 2,000 electric vehicles. They drive from a nationwide network of 140 CityHubs, of which 26 branches will be enlarged and fully sustainable over the next two years.
Substantial investments are also being made in the sorting centres; after Amsterdam, Zaltbommel and Utrecht, DHL will open a fully sustainable sorting centre in Dordrecht in the autumn; the fourth in four years. Between the sorting hubs there are trucks that run as much as possible on HVO100 diesel; a cleaner alternative. DHL has a clear roadmap to climate-neutral delivery by 2025. Where reduction is not yet possible due to the lack of sustainable alternatives, the emissions are compensated.
Wehkamp and DHL look forward to making a lasting positive impact in the coming years with a joint sustainability strategy.
