As of this week, every parcel that DHL delivers in Sittard-Geleen and surroundings (from Echt to Stein-Elsloo) comes from the climate-neutral CityHub that is located at Transportlaan 110 in Sittard-Geleen. The official opening took place in the presence of local entrepreneurs, the municipality and DHL employees. The DHL delivery drivers will soon have an open day where they can show their family their new workplace.
The DHL CityHub is the third climate-neutral location for the last mile that DHL is opening in the Netherlands. CityHub Geleen is part of an extensive investment program of 350 million euros in which 26 CityHubs in a network of 140 branches are built completely new and according to the highest sustainability standard (BREEAM Outstanding). The CityHub is gas-free and equipped with solar panels with which the electric vans are charged. From the CityHub, more than 100 delivery drivers drive approximately 70 routes daily past households, shops and businesses around Sittard-Geleen. Later this year, similar CityHubs will open in Nijmegen, Breda, Amsterdam, Tilburg and Groningen. The remaining eighteen will follow in 2023 and 2024. Last month, Almere and Zoetermeer had the scoop of the first CityHubs to open. There, too, all packages are transported electrically; before the end of this year, the entire last mile of DHL eCommerce in the Netherlands will be fossil-free, either by electric transport or by the use of HVO-100 diesel.
The DHL CityHub has a ServicePoint where packages can be picked up and delivered. The CityHub is also always looking for enthusiastic couriers with a driver's license who would like to work a few hours a week.
