After it was announced last week that DHL eCommerce will use 100 self-manufactured electric vans in the Netherlands for the delivery of parcels, the group announces today that it will double production and also sell the van to third parties.
DHL continues to consistently focus on electromobility with the self-developed electric van, which is produced by subsidiary StreetScooter in Aachen, Germany. Due to the high demand from the company's own group alone, the production capacity will be doubled to 20,000 vans by the end of the year. To this end, StreetScooter will open a second production site in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The company also starts selling its own electric car to third parties. Until now, StreetScooter built the model, optimized for parcel delivery, for its own use only. At least half of this year's production is now planned for third-party buyers. Deutsche Post DHL Group sees municipalities, strategic partners and companies with a large fleet of their own means of transport in Europe as potential customers.
In the Netherlands, DHL eCommerce will deploy 100 of these fully electric vans in more than fifty Dutch cities after a successful pilot.
